‘Product Provenance’ is the term used by a Devon based ethical fashion label. Eco Fashion, or Ethical Fashion as it is commonly known, has changed from a trend into a movement. There has been unprecedented surge in concern with garment workers overseas in how they are treated and indeed how the growing of textile crops affects the environment. Small, independent fashion designers have set out to produce garments and accessories for the most savy ethical consumer with British designs, British manufacture, organic and Fairtrade fabrics and purposeful design.
“Consumer products, such as clothing, are derived from many different sources and chains of supply. Green and ethical consumers have educated themselves in how to shop but sometimes they can be hoodwinked by ‘Green Wash’. ‘Product Provenance’ is a step-by-step-heart-on-sleeve approach to show shoppers exactly how a garment is produced. Pounds spent on products with true ethical and green credentials helps everyone in the chain of supply.” says Shauna Chapman, from Devon.
Most visitors to this website think on muli-levels: they buy local if they can, they buy organic or free range, they have energy saving light bulbs in their homes, a pot of herbs on their kitchen windowsill and are avid recyclers etc. ‘Product Provenance’ is about showing consumers where a garment has been derived, from the non-GM seed sewn to how the garment is packaged and arrives to your eco-consumer door.
